Roy Ayers was born in Los Angeles, on September 10, 1940.

Just a few years later, the legendary jazz vibes player Lionel Hampton gave Roy Ayers, at the age of five, his first pair of mallets, which led to the vibraphone being his trademark instrument, but he's also a talented composer in many styles, including funk, soul and jazz.
Ayers began his career as a jazz musician in 1963, releasing several albums with Atlantic & Polydor Records, during which he progressed into a more R&B style, slowly molding the new Disco genre. He's also recently released work on the hip hop label Ichiban Records.

His best known work is the title track of his 1976 album Everybody Loves the Sunshine.
